District Social Welfare Kupwara in Collaboration with GHSS Tangdar, Organized International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

District Social Welfare Kupwara in Collaboration with Govt. Girls’ Higher Secondary School Tangdar, Organized a grand event to Celebrate International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Tangdar on Monday 26th of June 2023.

Principal, GHSS Tangdar graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Sohail Ahmad, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Karnah as Guest of Honour. The other officials from School Education Department who attended  the event as Guests includes Tariq Ahmad War(Principal BHSS Kandi), Rizwan Ahmad Mir(Principal HSS Nachiyan), Nasreen Arif(Headmistress BHS Tangdar) and Raja Mushtaq Ahmad Khan.

Principal Shafeeq Ahmad welcomed the guests and the Participants. In his welcome address he thanked District Social welfare Kupwara for supporting such events and assured them School Education Department will leave no stone unturned in eliminating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in District Kupwara in general and Tehsil Karnah in particular.

Tehsil Social Welfare officer Karnah Thanked the Principal GGHSS Tangdar for the support extended by him and the institution in organizing the said programme.

To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, students were sensitised through various activities like Painting Competition, Symposium, Skit and Student Rally. 

Nazir Ahmad Ibn Shahbaz, a Key Resource Person, in his address said that the observance of this day aims to raise awareness about the major problems that illicit drug pose to the society at large. The main focus of organising today's event is to spread awareness among the students.

Wajid Saleem Teacher GHSS Tangdar, in his address said that all youths and other participants present in today's event need to act as ambassador against the Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in their own locality as there is huge increase in the number of youths consuming Drugs in Karnah Tehsil. 

About 200 students and 40 teachers from various Higher Secondary Schools and High Schools (both government and private) participated in the said programe. The students and Teachers of New Light Public School also participated in the Event.

 Earlier the Day started with Marathon from GDC Tangdar to BHS Tangdar, in which students of BHSS Kandi, HSS Nachiyan, BHS Tangdar, Physical Education Department Tangdar and other officials participated. Soon after a welcome song, a pledge was taken by all the participants including students, teachers, and officials from School Education & Tehsil Social welfare Karnah. In symposium the students focus on alarming situation in drug use at Tehsil Karnah and the consequences thereof. Sania Shafi, Khushboo Amjid, Amina Nazir, Sana Javid Qureshi and  Saiqa spoke on the occasion.

Students of GHSS Tangdar, performed a Skit on the theme ‘Nashakhori k liye akhir zimmevar kon’. for spreading Anti-drug awareness in the school. The critical role of family, school, friends and community was stressed to make students aware about the menace of drugs.  

The signature campaign with a pledge “To make our India and Particularity Tehsil Karnah Drug free” was also conducted under the patronage of Sr. Lecturer Imtiyaz Alam Qureshi. 

 In the Painting Competition Khushboo Amjid of class 9th, Faiza Manzoor of class 10th & Aymen Shakeel/Tehmeena Arshid of class 10th bagged first, second and the third prize respectively.

Several Consolation prizes were also awarded to the officials for their exemplary work in conducting the program in a record time. Principal GHSS Tangdar, Lecturer Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, Physical Education Master Zaffer Ahmad Mir, Key Resourse Person and Anchor Nazir Ahmad Ibn Shahbaz, Hakim Din an official of Tehsil social welfare Karnah were among the awardees. The script writers and guide of Skit Mr Showkat Azim (Sr. Lecturer) and Harminder Singh (Teacher) were also felicitated.

A student rally was organized by students, Teachers, and officials of Tehsil Social Welfare Karnah to make general public aware regarding drug abuse. The students displayed posters with different themes like “Say No to Drug & Say Yes to Life”, “Nasha CO Na Zindagi co haan”. The studenst also raise slogans like “ Karnah co Bachana Hai  Nashay co Mitaana hai”.  Pamphlets and stickers were distributed among transporters at Sumo Stand Tangdar  to generate awareness among drivers and transporters . The  print material and stickers were distributed among the general public. 

In a vote of Thanks, Tehsil Social welfare officer Karnah Mr Sohail Ahmad thanks all the participants including students, Teachers and other officials. He specially thank the Principal GHSS Tangdar, Physical Education Department Tangdar, Physical Education Master Zaffer Ahmad Mir, Sr. Lecturer Imtiyaz Alam Qureshi, Lecturer Ishfaq Ahmad for their tremendous efforts to make the programme successful.
